National Burial Index - 3rd Edition

How to Make Contact with Participating Societies/Groups

Why You Might Need To Make Contact

When you search the NBI, we hope you'll find a number of entries that may be of value to you. If so, you will want to know if further information is available from the transcribers of those entries (i.e., the participating society, group or individual who submitted the details) and, if so, how to obtain it.

Exceptionally, you may have comments to make about an entry. Every care has been taken in making the transcription but standards of handwriting in the original registers can vary enormously and errors may have escaped the attention of the checkers. If you do find what appears to be an error, we encourage you to report it to the relevant transcribers. That way you can help to ensure that the next edition of the NBI will be even better.

Obtaining More Information For An Entry

The main reason you may want to contact transcribers is to see if there might be more information about an entry which would be of help to you.

In a number of cases, the transcribing society or group will have extracted additional information relating to the index entries: if so, this may be available through a look-up service they operate (some societies charge a small fee for this) or from one of their publications.

Details of Participating Societies/Groups

Below, you will find details of each transcriber.

We hope that each society web-site provides easy-to-follow instructions on how to proceed in order to solve your NBI-related queries. Where no web-site is available, a contact e-mail and/or postal address is given. If you expect a reply from a transcriber, please remember to send a self-addressed envelope for that purpose, either stamped (if you live in the UK) or with 2 International Reply Coupons (if outside the UK).
