Eric Frankcom
Many people will be saddened to hear of Eric’s death, which took place on Christmas Day. He had been ill for some time and it undoubtedly came as a blessed release for him!
His funeral will take place at Pleasington Crematorium in Blackburn at 12 noon on Wednesday 6th January. If anyone would like more details, feel free to contact me at .
Eric’s roots were in Wiltshire but his involvement with Family History was concentrated in the Lancashire area, where he and Dorothy lived.
He was involved with the Rossendale Society for Family History and Heraldry (now the Lancashire Family History & Heraldry Society) from its beginnings and it was here that he met George Pelling, who was Chairman of the FFHS from 1983-1985 and 1988-1991. Eric subsequently became involved with the FFHS and was Treasurer from 1984-1990. He became deeply involved with the Publications Company and was Publications Manager from 1990-2000 when he retired. No-one who attended the half-yearly conferences during that decade will ever forget the sight of Eric arriving with a vanload of publications, which he and his helpers then unpacked and arranged on the bookstall. Many societies still remember with gratitude the boxes and boxes of publications’ orders which Eric and his helpers put together for them, first at the Birmingham & Midland Institute and later at the publications depot in Ramsbottom. It was sales of these publications which enabled a lot of societies to expand and prosper in the 1990s.
Eric was a lovely man and a good friend and he will be much missed.
