Update on Charitable Incorporated Organisations

The long awaited report, promised by the Office of the Third Sector (OTS), on the responses to its consultation paper into the secondary legislation required to implement the Charities Act 2006 proposals for Charitable Incorporated Organisations (CIOs) has now been published.

To view a copy of the accompanying statement and the OTS report  please go to   http://www.cabinetoffice.gov.uk/third_sector/news/news_stories/090917_cioresponse.aspx

There clearly is some way still to go before the CIOs are incorporated. Revised draft regulations and redrafted constitutional documents will be provided, probably by the end of the year. It is unclear whether existing charities will be able to convert into CIOs immediately or if they will be required to wait until later, to allow brand new CIOs to be registered first."
