Fairs to be Attended by the Federation

fair fair fair fair fair fair fair

During 2013 the FFHS will be represented at the following fairs to raise the profile of the Federation and to promote the study of Family History on behalf of our member societies.
Why not make a note in your diary and come along and say hello?

More shows to be added as details become available.

Other Fairs

Whilst the FFHS itself does not hold a Family History Fair, most of our member societies hold similar Open Days. Additionally, societies in specific areas often collaborate as a group to organise Family History Fairs on a regional basis. Details of these should normally be found on the web-site of the society concerned (see the "Our Members" pages).

A full list of known Family History Fairs, events and activities can be found on the online calendar of GENEVA (GENealogical EVents and Activities). This is part of the GENUKI pages but it is maintained on behalf of the FFHS as well, and our member societies are encouraged to post details of their main events to this List. A list of events organised as part of the Archives Awareness Campaign can be found at www.archiveawareness.com

Publicise YOUR event with the Federation

The Federation can help you to publicise your events and offers a number of possibilities that can give your event much greater coverage nationally and even worldwide. Most of these are free of charge.

GENEVA (GENealogical EVents and Activities)

Why not put your event on the online calendar of GENEVA? This is part of the GENUKI pages but is maintained on behalf of the FFHS. We encourage our member societies to post details of their main events to this List. This also allows you to check that a nearby society is not holding a similar event on the same day 10 miles away!

The Federation's FFHS Members List

Send the details of your event set out in a layout that you would like it to appear in to These messages are sent to every one of the Federation's Member Societies. Please make sure you include information on cost of stands (if applicable) and give contact details (No attachments please text only)

The Federation's FFHS-NEWS List

FFHS-NEWS is a 'one-way' Mailing List which is used to make announcements from the Federation and to publish information of general interest. By contrast with the Ezine which is sent out bi-monthly, e-mail announcements on the FFHS-NEWS Mailing List are sent as and when the news is received.

The List is 'one-way' in that anyone is welcome to join the List and receive the announcements, but messages can only be posted to the List centrally. Potential messages that members wish to be considered for posting to the List should be sent to

The Federation website

If you have an item you would like to be considered for inclusion on the FFHS website details should be sent to Space and other considerations make this a medium that we will not always feel is the most appropriate one for your message.

The Ezine

Don't forget the ezine! 14,500 people receive and read it every other month - all with an interest in family history. Consider advertising your event in it or even sponsoring an issue to tell everybody all about your show! Contact the editor at for advertising rates

All these channels are available to member societies. Are you using them as effectively as you could do?

Have you considered other Channels?

  • Are you part of a Regional Family History Group? Their websites, newsletters, other member societies.
  • Your Society website
  • Your Society Journal and newsletters
  • Press Releases to Local Radio Stations, T.V. stations, local newspapers and magazines and the Family History press.
  • Does your society have an Internet forum or use other forms of social networking such as Twitter or Facebook?
  • Paid advertising in local papers - they will often give you a write up in their local activities pages if you are also advertising.
  • Posters in libraries, archives offices, Register Offices, supermarkets

If you represent an external organisation and are interested in advertising a Family History related event, in the first instance please contact
