FFHS (Publications) Ltd has now closed its distribution warehouse and office in Oram Street, Bury. The company is continuing in business as a separate trading subsidiary of the Federation under the new title of FFHS Services Ltd.
FamilyHistoryOnline:
Data from FamilyHistoryOnline was transferred, with the agreement of its owners, for hosting by www.findmypast.co.uk. This service finally closed on Monday 2nd March 2009 due to the Federation of Family History Societies and its services company being unable to invest sufficient time and money in the considerable resources that would have been necessary for FamilyHistoryOnline to continue as a viable alternative to other commercial sites.
The hosting of FamilyHistoryOnline by findmypast.co.uk is providing greater access to this valuable information and bringing quality data to a wider audience worldwide. It will also produce greater returns to the family history societies who own this data, enabling them to use the income to support their educational, project, and other work.
Administration queries should continue to be addressed to the FMP Liaison Manager at
GENfair:
This 'one-stop' shop for Family and Local Historians is now being operated under franchise on behalf of the Federation by S&N British Data Archive Ltd.
It has a new web site with improved search facilities at www.genfair.co.uk
Books:
In most instances, FFHS books, previously published by FFHS (Publications) Ltd, can still be obtained by purchasing on-line from www.genfair.co.uk (see above). Future publications will be published as co-branded joint ventures in partnership with the Society of Genealogists and other publishers.
National Burial Index:
The new third edition can be ordered via the FFHS Services Ltd page on GENfair at www.genfair.co.uk/supplier.php?sid=228
or direct from: FFHS Services Ltd, PO Box 673, Rochdale, OL16 9JQ.
