Future Meetings
GM Autumn 2012
The GM will be held on Saturday September 29th 2012 at Parklands Leisure Centre, Oadby, Leicester. LE2 5QG. The FFHS is grateful to Leicestershire & Rutland FHS for their invitation to hold the GM in Leicestershire. A Family History Fair will take place on the same day at the same venue. AGM Spring 2013
The FFHS are grateful to the Birmingham and Midland Society for Genealogy & Heraldry for inviting us to hold the AGM/GM in Birmingham during their 50th Anniversary year. The meeting will take place on Saturday March 23rd 2013 at The Birmingham & Midland Institute, 9 Margaret Street, Birmingham B3 3BS.
GM Autumn 2013
The GM will be held on Saturday 21st September 2013 at the Doncaster College for the Deaf, Leger Way, Doncaster. DN2 6AY. The FFHS is grateful to the Yorkshire Group of Family History Societies for extending an invitation to hold the GM in Doncaster. A Family History Fair will take place on the same day at the same venue. Further details will be added as they become available.
Past Meetings
General Meeting - Liverpool 17 September 2011

David Cufley addressed the meeting and said that in 1988 at the Avery Hill Conference, North West Kent FHS had presented a gavel to the FFHS which had subsequently split when in use! The original gavel had been repaired, however, given its elegant design and weakened condition, as a structural engineer David Cufley had decided that a new gavel was required to resist such vigorous use!! On behalf of the FFHS David Holman accepted the new gavel made from Burbinga wood and thanked David Cufley for the gift.
David Holman (Chairman FFHS) gave a talk entitled Using British medals to help fill out your family tree. The talk prompted a number of questions from the floor and David was thanked for his help and information given.
AGM at Haywards Heath - 26 March 2011
The FFHS is delighted to announce that Dr. Nick Barratt was elected as the new President of the FFHS at the Annual General Meeting held on Saturday 26th March at Haywards Heath. Speaking about his new appointment Nick said:
'It is a great honour and privilege to have been elected President of the Federation of Family History Societies. In many ways, the societies - and their members - are the lifeblood of genealogy, and to represent such committed and dedicated people is a very humbling thought. I have constantly tried to champion the cause of family history societies whenever possible, in print and in broadcast media; because it is even more important today, with so many datasets available online, that people join at least one society so that they can connect to local records and resources that are not online, or find help when they inevitably become stuck at a crucial juncture of their research. Family history societies provide the community cohesion that brings our research experience together - and should be seen as a vital part of the history network beyond the confines of genealogy.'
Nick Barratt succeeds Lady Teviot who has served as President for ten years. David Holman, Chairman of the FFHS presented Lady Teviot with a bouquet and thanked her on behalf of the FFHS and its member societies for all that she had done for the Federation during her tenure as President. At the General Meeting held on Saturday 26th March 2011 Lady Teviot was elected as a Vice President, a life time appointment. Lady Teviot joins Dr. Colin Chapman, Derek Palgrave and Pauline Litton who are existing Vice Presidents.
On Friday 25th March 2011 a reception was held for Lady Teviot to thank her for all she had done for the FFHS during her ten year tenure as President, particularly for acting as an excellent ambassador for the FFHS and its member societies during private visits overseas.
The FFHS would like to thank Sussex Family History Group for their invitation to hold the Annual General and General Meetings in Haywards Heath and for all their help in arranging the meetings.
Thanks also to John Titford who gave a lecture entitled "Bounce-backers: ancestors who moved away, then returned home".
